Three cool things, none of which have anything to do with one another

Plus some. It’s a busy week.

A couple of weekends ago, my parents came out for a visit. Hubby and Dad built a small raised garden bed, Mom blessed us by buying a bunch of tomato plants, and we’re probably going to have a bumper crop this year. Then…Mom warned me to not bother canning them. But I do hate to waste things, especially food…

Wonderfully, I found this in my morning perusal of my favourite gardening blogs. As someone who often buys in-season and inexpensive berries, then just rinses, dries, and freezes them…well. This tomato solution is so simple I’m honestly not sure why I didn’t think of it. Anyhow, just passing it on to you.

Cool news?

Wearing a turban and a light blue tunic threaded with silver, a man stands in a workshop in Jerusalem’s Old City beside spools of white thread affixed to sewing machines. A painting of high priests performing an animal sacrifice beside the First Temple illustrates the function of the room.

On Monday, the Temple Institute started preparing to build a Third Temple on Jerusalem’s Mount Moriah, the site of the Dome of the Rock and the Aksa mosque, by inaugurating a workshop that manufactures priestly garments.

…Priestly garments have not been worn since the destruction of the Second Temple by Rome in 70 CE and cannot be functional until a Third Temple is constructed.

…Approximately one-third of the commandments in the Torah cannot be accomplished without a temple, including the obligations of the Kohanim.

Of course, that last bit is just another indication of our inability to work or “good deed” or “be good enough” to attain salvation, and points directly to the need all men have for Jesus and His atoning, justifying death on the cross.

Rabbi Yehuda Glick, director of the Temple Institute, says he assumes Muslims will be supportive when the Temple is ready to be built:

“We already have some Muslims who are secretly in touch with us,” he says.

Well…that’s interesting.

Anyhow, food for thought, via Slice of Laodicea.

Newt Gingrich suggests 3 ways to lower gasoline prices:

Also, today President Bush has said today it’s time we need to drill here, drill now.

It’s time to go NUCLEAR, people. Past time. And coal to oil. Hydroelectricity, too. Enough already! Let’s do it! Trust me: beginning work on such things today would also lower gas prices immediately.

Finally, Clear Channel and Premiere Radio had better hope the lefties don’t get the so-called “Fairness” Doctrine through, as Maha Rushie signs a gargantuan, jaw-dropping, “holy crap” deal for $400 million through 2016. As Drudge put it,

While newspapers and traditional broadcast media are experiencing declining revenues, Limbaugh’s golden microphone has turned diamond-laced…

The deal represents a stunning triumph over the establishment by an outsider who connected with and captured the spirit of the nation’s heartland.

God bless America, eh? I think this is fine news for Rush and for the free market. What a great country, where someone can sign a contract for so many bags of money like that! When we lost Rem, I didn’t watch or listen to anything for months, and now don’t (often can’t) listen to Rush on a daily basis as I once did. But I still enjoy him and his show; he’s passionate, encouraging, brilliantly optimistic, informative, entertaining, congenial, and charmingly pretends to be arrogant, something that easily fools those who aren’t as familiar with him as I am. Good for you, Rush…and in his 20th year of EIB, too. Congrats!

Of course, all the Rush-haters will emerge once again from their broad pastures of jealousy and envy, eyes burning with hatred for someone who has dared to become a huge success through hard work and dedication and has become famous to boot. Talk about people who need to get over themselves…! Funny, these same people never get nearly this angry over the salaries of pro athletes. Keep in mind, y’all…Rush is not only wealthy but very generous.

El Rushbo is calling it “The Contract For America, 2008″.

Nice bed!! My grandma planted at least 36 tomato plants, so I imagine we’ll be freezing, canning, or otherwise preserving plenty of tomatoes this year (and that doesn’t count the four or five I have at home!). lol

Wow, on Israel. Wow. :)

Re: Oil – I signed the petition a few weeks ago and sent my congress-creatures letters (I wrote a rather long one detailing Ohio’s issues, the lack of new refineries, nuclear plants, etc.). Of course I’m not holding my breath that it will actually make any difference at all. :(
