Freedom of religion, freedom period: HR 1388 warning
There are many Christians who run about saying believers should have no involvement in the legal workings of their nation: no politics allowed. This is silly—and oftentimes, extraordinarily dangerous, the men in power being fallen creatures. Two of the coolest gents on YouTube, Doug Eaton and Mark, explain why, with some very timely examples.
Another way Christians’ laziness and lack of movement endangers our freedom to live and worship as we believe God expects us to is moving through Congress as I type, HR 1388. The bill our Senate is presently debating, the GIVE Act, is, in short, state-sponsored slavery*, not to mention the fact that it forbids organizations from attempting to influence legislation; prohibits organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes; and disallows one from assisting, promoting, or deterring union organizing. Is this tyranny?
Forcing citizens to serve the state is bad enough, but keep in mind, too, that this means children will be taken from their parents for state use. Summer camp won’t be Fishing 101 anymore, it’ll be “inclusiveness” and “the greater good” classes, and I guarantee that many of these things will violate Christian principles and values, things Christian parents are commanded to pass on to and instill within their children.
…the bill’s opponents — and there are only a few in Congress — say it could cram ideology down the throats of young “volunteers,” many of whom could be forced into service since the bill creates a “Congressional Commission on Civic Service.”
The bipartisan commission will be tasked with exploring a number of topics, including “whether a workable, fair and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the nation.”
“We contribute our time and money under no government coercion on a scale the rest of the world doesn’t emulate and probably can’t imagine,” said Luke Sheahan, contributing editor for the Family Security Foundation. “The idea that government should order its people to perform acts of charity is contrary to the idea of charity and it removes the responsibility for charity from the people to the government, destroying private initiative.”
“Mandatory” is unfair and unjust. Not that such an idea will stop this. Remember my warning about BHO’s “civilian national security force”, based on Canada’s Katimavik? This is a communist idea, straight from the USSR, and it does include your children being forced to serve and being “educated” while they do whatever it is the federal government wants them to do, and the American taxpayer has hard-earned money ripped from their wallet to pay for it.
Anyone think they’ll be having Bible lessons?
Does anyone think that the ideas of certain faiths will be accepted or allowed?More:
Fears about Obama’s plans to create involuntary servitude were first stoked in July 2008, when Obama told a rally in Colorado Springs, “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that is just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.
“Despite denials that Obama plans to institute a mandatory program of national service, his original change.gov website stated that Americans would be “required” to complete “50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year”. The text was only later changed to state that Americans would be “encouraged” to undertake such programs.
In addition, Obama’s Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, publicly stated his intention to help create “universal civil defense training” in 2006.
In at least one version of the bill,
* Government the right to require individuals to give 3 years service under the guise of “volunteer” service
* It talks about uniforms and “camps.” They revise the word “camps” and call it “campus.” There is language about Seniors and Community organizations.
* “leverage Federal investments to increase State, local, business, and philanthropic resources to address national and local challenges
* encourage national service efforts to address pressing national challenges, such as improving education for low-income students, increasing energy conservation, and improving the health, well-being, and economic opportunities of the neediest individuals in the Nation;
* expand and strengthen service-learning programs through year-round opportunities, including during the summer months, to improve the education of children and youth and to maximize the benefits of national and community service, in order to renew the ethic of civic responsibility and the spirit of community to children and youth throughout the United States;
* increase service opportunities for our Nation’s retiring professionals
* encourage members of the Baby Boom generation to partake in service opportunities
* Civilian Community Corps shall be called the “National Civilian Community Corps”
* the Director determines appropriate “Uniforms”
Americans, the government is about to pass a law that will make it all right for them to take your children away from you. Sorry, but that’s unnerving, to say the least. Moreover, it’s a violation of one’s rights and responsibilities as a parent, to educate one’s own child; it’s a strike at a basic American principle that families are independent and indeed sacred. Glenn Beck rightly makes this one of the vital, common-sense principles Americans must respect if we’re to keep this rapidly foundering ship aright:
The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Marriage/Family “It is in the love of one’s family only that heartfelt happiness is known. By a law of our nature, we cannot be happy without the endearing connections of a family.” Thomas Jefferson
Like most Americans, I’m all for volunteering…true volunteering, where one decides they want to give their time, talent, and abilities to an organization, any organization, be it a church, school, a library, the local community center or rehab clinic, the military, Habitat for Humanity, a neighborhood beautifying group planting trees and flowers, cancer charities, the Manatee Tiara Restoration Fund, whatever. The point is, though, that people are not forced to do such things, but choose to do so. One of the nice things about this is that everyone has different interests and pet projects as well as different abilities and talents, so that there are plenty of folks doing different things for different sectors in need.
Do you really think kids in Obama’s GIVE Corps are going to be rebuilding churches in Louisiana, helping pregnant women who’ve eschewed abortion care for their new child, or anything at all to do with the Christian faith that was the bedrock of this nation? Christian parents, God holds you responsible for your child’s education. (See what happens when that doesn’t occur.) It doesn’t matter what the government mandates, He expects you to fill your child with Himself, with reverence toward and a desire to obey Him; more and more, that means disobeying the government, unless you want your child performing abortions lest they lose their job, or preaching that homosexuality is acceptable to God because they don’t want to lose their pulpit.
Christians, we need to fight this! It is a blow aimed at our right to train up our children in the way they should go—the way of God, the God of the Bible.
This is a bad, bad bill, once again opening the door to things the government has no business being involved in.It’s also very dangerous, and a way for certain America-haters to continue tearing away at the things that made this nation great and good.
(*Hey: if the government forces you to do something, it’s taking you away from things you should or could be doing, like working at a productive job caring for your family by providing something your fellow man wants. Nor is it “charity” or “volunteering” if it is compulsory. Hello?)

[...] the banks, want to dictate pay, “force” “volunteering”, has decided that you will have to relinquish your children to the government for “service”…? Does Obama believe in real freedom? Or another [...]
