What an interesting Monday: JokeBama, Townhall Uprisings, Recommendation

From the column of the weekend (sorry it’s late):

How did the health-care debate decay to the point where we think it entirely natural for the central government to fix a collective figure for what 300 million freeborn citizens ought to be spending on something as basic to individual liberty as their own bodies?

…It redefines the relationship between the citizen and the state in a way that hands all the advantages to statists — to those who believe government has a legitimate right to regulate human affairs in every particular.

Steyn, of course.

The people are (finally) rising up, at least some of them. Our “Dancing With The D-Listers” culture hasn’t quite killed America yet, though we’re close; having dinner with Hubby and reader Carrie Saturday after the Derby, we had the pleasure of hearing some mid-20s bimbo ask her fellow diner who JFK and Jack Ruby were. Oh my gosh.

First of all, dissent is breaking out in Los Angeles, of all places:

Now, this seems funny to me, in part because the “socialism” bit is true. Socialism is not pleasant, statism in general is not pleasant. Indeed, it’s easy to point out how evilly sadistic both are (socialism being just another name for statism), how needlessly cruel to humanity and the human spirit. The same argument could be made for the Joker’s character in the last Batman movie. The character, unforgettably, chillingly portrayed by Heath Ledger, truly enjoyed giving others pain of the physical, mental, and emotional varieties. It may even have been a sort of power-drunkenness. The latter can certainly be said of the majority of American politicians, who apparently see themselves as princes and princesses, greater in wisdom and need than the rest of us. So, to me, it’s funny and fitting. There are, however, other perspectives, and I can understand them.

That said, it’s not surprising that some are suggesting racist undertones, ah, colour the picture and its message. Though I can see the point made to Jonah Golberg about this, I don’t think racism has a darned thing to do with this. Some folks, it seems, are looking for racism beneath (almost) every set of hotel room linens:

Sigh. Okay, yes, it’s true. Many of the Orcs (and the super-Orcs) are dark-skinned and have slant-eyes. They are also — how shall I put this? — Orcs! Ya frickin’ idjit!

One is tempted to ask who is the real racist here? On the one hand we have people — like me — who see horrific, flesh-eating, dull-witted creatures with jagged feral teeth, venomous mouths, pointed devilish ears, and reptilian skin, and say, “Cool, Orcs!” On the other hand we have people, like Mr. Yatt, who see the same repugnant creatures and righteously exclaim “black people!” Maybe he should spend less time vetting movies for signs of racism and more time vetting himself if, that is, he free-associates black people with these subhuman monsters.

Indeed!

What makes this most interesting, though, is that it’s happening at all. Could the ObaMessiah be losing his cool? Losing his “above us all” status? Clearly…something is amiss…

Secondly, as you’ve probably heard, townhall meetings are NOT going well for the Congresscreatures who seek to rule us and keep us under their ironclad boots, regardless of the Constitution, about which very few of them care. Just a few videos via Drudge, all of which are worth watching.

Tim Bishop is particularly infuriating. What a disgustingly condescending windbag. He won’t answer his constituents regarding his planned vote; he flat out lies about social security going broke; he ignores one man’s complaints about cap & trade vs. China (about 5:09); and you’ll spit out your coffee at 6:40-6:55. The actual townhall begins about 1:20, with plenty of jerkiness from Mr. Bishop.

Oh, a couple of interesting tidbits about the health insurance bill? For one thing, it puts Sebelius in charge of developing “standards for the measurement of gender”,whatever that means, “to detect and monitor trends in health disparities”. Just…a note.

Also, there’s a rumor that the bill allows the government to decide when people can and cannot have children. Unfortunately, the bill is exceedingly long and I’ve not gotten to that part yet. Still, as we all know, one of the President’s buddies is a big fan of the idea of forced contraceptives and such. There is a fairly good overview here and another here. They’re quite similar and may be the same, just one has more abbreviations. If you read these, though, and find something, DOUBLE-CHECK IN THE BILL ITSELF. Okay? Please? Just to make sure you’re not spouting any untruths. Furthermore, you can then go to your town hall meeting and have sound questions for your doubtlessy dastardly Congresscreature.

That is what we need to do. All of us. Find out when these arrogant, smug wannabe rulers will be in town, and go talk to them. Make them answer your questions! Take a day off if need be; it’s what the left does (those few that have jobs, anyhow). My recommendation is that you contact their office or check out Legistalker to see when the meetings will be, and go prepared. Write down your questions & concerns ahead of time if you must, so you don’t “go blank”. But read up, inform yourself, and then take the battle to the bastards. Chances are, you’ll be far better informed than they are.

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

Wow … the arrogance (and total disregard for their constituents) is appalling. The only thing we can hope for is voting all these people out of office.
